This past Saturday, the world’s richest race was held at Nad al Sheba racetrack, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Curlin, the now Horse of the Year, set a new record by winning the race and taking a 7¾ length advance over its competitors.
Robby Alvarado, the winning rider says: “What a horse. Curlin is like a limousine and I am just along for the ride.” In the race, Curlin blew past the leaders, Well Armed and Asiatic Boy, and as he crossed the finish line effortlessly, Albarado raised an index finger to the sky.
Steve Asmussen, Curlin’s trainer says: “He’s thriving when he is running. He’s a tremendous animal. He’s spoiled us with who he is.” Son of Smart Strike, the four-year-old horse was the 2-5 favorite and did not disappoint thousands of fans who were observing expectantly.
His final time for the 1 and a quarter of a mile was 2:00:15, which classifies as the third fastest in 13 total runnings of the World Cup. Curlin’s total earnings so far add up to an amazing sum of $8,807,800.
